Visiting your General Practitioner: A guide for young people with lived experience of self-harm and suicidality

This guide has been developed in partnership with young people from the Youth Advisory Group at the Institute for Mental Health to help young people prepare to talk with their GP about self-harm and suicidal experiences.

The guide is informed by research evidence and guided by the insights, stories and narratives of the Youth Advisory Group members who were involved from beginning to end and contributed in a variety of ways.

‘Sinking feeling’ animation

The below animation from PAPYRUS created in collaboration with the BAFTA Award-winning animation studio, Blue Zoo tackles the heart-breaking reality that many children and young people are suffering in silence without the vital help and support they need.

The animation has been developed to encourage more people to spot the signs and reach-in to guide young people away from thoughts of suicide.
