{"id":1073,"date":"2022-01-27T16:12:38","date_gmt":"2022-01-27T16:12:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/no-more.co.uk\/?p=1073"},"modified":"2022-01-27T16:13:57","modified_gmt":"2022-01-27T16:13:57","slug":"new-zsa-suicide-awareness-training-for-university-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/no-more.co.uk\/new-zsa-suicide-awareness-training-for-university-students\/","title":{"rendered":"NEW ZSA suicide awareness training for university students"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Zero Suicide Alliance (ZSA) has launched Suicide Awareness Training to support the UK\u2019s 2.4 million students to have potentially life-saving conversations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sadly 2,382 young people took their own lives (aged between 15 and 24) in England, Scotland and Wales between 2018 and 2020, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.samaritans.org\/about-samaritans\/research-policy\/suicide-facts-and-figures\/latest-suicide-data\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according to a recent Samaritans report<\/a>. The latest available data on student suicide figures (ONS, 2018) stated that eight students a month died by suicide in the academic year 2016 to 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Student mental health is a huge priority for UK universities and particularly support for students who may be at risk of suicide. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ZSA&#8217;s training aims to support students, their families and friends, to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>recognise someone who may be struggling<\/li><li>approach a difficult conversation<\/li><li>signpost to for support.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The training will be shared across the UK\u2019s universities and Professor Steve West, President of Universities UK and Vice-Chancellor of University of the West of England welcomed its launch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said: \u201cIt is difficult to overstate the importance of open conversations and of clear and simple access to support for students who are struggling.
